Creating Pro/Con Lists
Use Copilot to assess software, generating pro/con lists and comparing options effectively.Technology Assessment with Microsoft Copilot
I used Microsoft Copilot to generate an initial pros and cons list for new software, as well as identifying competing products and comparing/contrasting to find the best options. When prompting, I make sure to give a clear job role and aim. Prompt: 'You are a Learning Technology Lead responsible for assessing new technology and deciding what to purchase. Create a table showing the current video capture tools on the market and listing 3 pros and 3 cons of each, as well as their price if possible.'
Copilot produced a table of information which included the video capture tool name (with a link to their website), 3 pros and 3 cons for each, along with a price (where it was available). One example includes ‘Descript’. The pros were ‘1. Ideal for video creators who want to start recording and edit their video captures in one dashboard. 2. High-quality screen recording.’ and ‘3. User-friendly interface.’ The cons were ‘1. Requires a learning curve for beginners. 2. Advanced features may be overwhelming for casual users.’ and ‘3. Limited customization options.’ It does not provide a price. Beneath the table, the text says ‘Please note that the prices are not available for all tools and the pros and cons are based on general user reviews and may vary based on individual needs and experiences. It’s always a good idea to try out a tool before making a purchase decision.
The output given was helpful for creating business case proposals and to keep me horizon scanning for upcoming software.
